AGENT SMITH - The Matrix (1999)

You don’t want to mess with this agent. Who can forget the way “Mr. Anderson” rolls off Hugo Weaving’s tongue as he taunts Keanu Reeves’ messianic character Neo in The Matrix? Agent Smith is definitely one of the most memorable villains of cinema.
HANNIBAL LECTER - The Silence of the Lambs (1991)

Probably one of the creepiest villains in cinema, Hannibal Lecter is terrifyingly portrayed by the amazing Anthony Hopkins in this film based on the novel by Thomas Harris. Thanks to this movie, parents everywhere may have thought twice naming their daughters “Clarisse”. There’s nothing scarier than an intelligent old dude who eats people.
THE JOKER - The Dark Knight (2008)

Heath Ledger brought the iconic character of The Joker to a totally different level. Kooky, quirky but still totally creepy (especially when he growls “Why so serious?!” at his victims), The Joker proves to be more than a worthy adversary to Christian Bale’s Batman in The Dark Knight.

ANTON CHIGURH - No Country for Old Men (2007)

The scariest motherfucker with a bowl cut you’ll ever meet. Trust me. You don’t want to mess with this guy while you’re on the road. And a word of advice: never make a bet with this psychopath.
JAFAR - Aladdin (1992)
(voiced by Jonathan Freeman)
Evil and conniving, this sorcerer executes a pretty sinister vendetta against Disney’s favorite street rat. His character’s awesomeness is largely thanks to Disney’s superb animation, but also partly due to Jonathan Freeman’s deliciously devious voice acting. Jafar is truly one of film’s best villains of all time.
VOLDEMORT - Harry Potter series

He Who Must Not Be Named is predictably on this list. He’s cunning and creepy and gunning for our favorite wizard’s life. Naturally, we must dislike him, but he’s a villain I’m sure we all love to hate. Ralph Fiennes shows everyone just how much fun one can have without a nose.
JEAN-BAPTISTE EMANUEL ZORG - The Fifth Element (1997)
(played by Gary Oldman)
Gary Oldman rocks his character’s unfortunate hairstyle in Luc Besson’s sci-fi action adventure The Fifth Element. With a name like Jean-Baptiste Emanuel Zorg (better-known to his subordinates as Zorg), how can he not be awesome?
HERTZ - Shoot ‘Em Up (2007)
(played by Paul Giamatti)
He’s smart, relentless and kind of a necrophiliac - the perfect combination for a movie villain. Paul Giamatti’s Hertz from the action-packed Shoot ‘Em Up is one of my favorite movie villains because of how larger-than-life he is, but at the same time, totally down-to-earth, considering he can’t help but answer his wife’s phone calls, no matter where he is or who he’s in the middle of killing.
HARRY - In Bruges (2008)
(played by Ralph Fiennes)
This foul-mouthed villain has the occasional temper tantrum, but In Bruges’ Harry doesn’t mean to destroy inanimate fucking objects unless they somehow violate his code of honor. Either get the job done for dear old Harry, or he’ll send you to fuckin’ Bruges as a death sentence. Oh, and a word of advice: Don’t ever insult his children.
PENNYWISE - Stephen King’s It (1990)
(played by Tim Curry)
To this day, this clown gives me nightmares. I suppose it serves me right for daring to watch Stephen King’s It at a pretty young age. Nothing gets you to the top of the Awesome Movie Villains list than taking what was a harmless carnival character and turning him into movie viewers’ worst nightmare.
